The RVF Support Network Inc. is a non profit incorporated association set up
May 2001. We aim to provide a local and national support network for sufferers
and their families, offering support and information either personally, via our
website or through other publications.
Information will include reference materials, other sources and sharing
experiences from a personal perspective.
At the time of writing there is no central organisation or support in
Australia for women who have suffered this injury. The RVF Support Network's
primary focus is supporting women who have suffered a recto-vaginal fistula
through childbirth by providing informational material, including this website
and a formal support network. We invite women who have sustained a fistula by
other means to use this website and contact us and others if you wish.
The RVF Support Network will not give treatment for a recto-vaginal fistula,
or purport to give medical advice to members. Neither will it practice or
promote therapies of doubtful or unproven value to people with a recto-vaginal
fistula.
We cannot provide counselling services, but we can help by sharing
experiences and providing useful contacts and information.
One of our major challenges has been to gather credible and relevant
information from a variety of sources and package it to be freely available to
those in need.
Part of the RVF Support Network's vision is to complement the health care
currently available. We have sought input, guidance and support from relevant
health professionals and bodies, into how we can best achieve this.
In the future we wish to establish relationships with other fistula-related
organisations from around the world.
